Patient Terms and Privacy Notice

Effective October 11, 2026 · Version 2026-10-11.1

DocLien ("DocLien") helps your attorney and your medical providers coordinate your care after an injury. This notice explains how the patient portal works and how we protect your information. By using the portal, you agree to these terms.

1. What DocLien is, and is not

  • DocLien schedules your visits, collects the forms you sign, and keeps your attorney and doctors up to date.
  • DocLien is not your doctor and is not your lawyer. Ask your doctor about your health and your attorney about your case.
  • In an emergency, call 911.

2. Your choice of doctor

You may choose any doctor or provider you want. You do not have to use a provider DocLien suggests, and you can change providers. Your attorney cannot be paid for sending you to a provider, and providers cannot be paid for being chosen.

3. Your information

We keep your name, contact details, information about your injury and insurance, your appointments, your medical records and bills, and the forms you sign. Only the people working on your case can see it: your attorney’s office, the providers treating you, and DocLien coordinators. Each sees only what they need.

Your health information is protected by HIPAA and California medical privacy law. We share it only as you have authorized (for example, in the HIPAA authorization you sign) or as the law requires. We never sell your information and never use it for advertising.

We record each time someone opens your file, and we protect your information with encryption and other security measures.

4. Text messages

We text you sign-in codes and short notices such as "You have an update in DocLien, sign in to view". Texts never include health details. Message and data rates may apply; frequency varies. Reply STOP to stop texts or HELP for help. If you stop texts, call your DocLien coordinator to get updates.

Keep your phone locked. If you lose your phone or change your number, tell your DocLien coordinator right away.

5. Signing forms electronically

Forms you sign in the portal count the same as signing on paper. You can always ask for a free paper copy, or ask to sign on paper instead. Your lien agreement and HIPAA authorization each explain your rights, including your right to cancel the authorization in writing.

6. Your rights

  • Get a copy of your medical records and bills. Ask your provider, or ask DocLien and we will help.
  • Ask to correct information that is wrong.
  • Ask who your health information has been shared with.
  • Cancel your HIPAA authorization in writing at any time. This does not undo what was already shared.
  • Complain if you think your privacy was not respected: to your provider, to DocLien at privacy@doclien.com, or to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office for Civil Rights (hhs.gov/ocr/complaints). No one may treat you differently for complaining.

7. Your medical providers’ privacy notices

Each provider that treats you has its own Notice of Privacy Practices, which explains how it uses your health information. You can ask the provider for a copy.

8. Changes and contact

We may update this notice. If we make important changes, we will ask you to review them the next time you sign in. Questions: privacy@doclien.com, or call your DocLien coordinator.
